Manaslu Region Trekking
Manaslu region trekking is one of the most exotic and cultural trekking destination In Nepal. Mt. Manaslu (8,163 m.) also known as Kutang in Local language is the eight highest peak in the world. Manaslu means mountain of spirit, which came after Sanskrit word “manasa” which means “intellect” or “soul”.
Mt. Manaslu is situated in Lamjung district of Nepal about 40 miles east of Annapurna. Manaslu region offers varieties of trekking options of which all of the trekking trail follows Budhi Gandaki river bank ancient salt trading route. Manaslu trekking route passes through the Manaslu Conservation Area which offers diverse variety of flora and fauna. The vegetation ranges from sub-tropical forest to alpine to trans-Himalayan pasture land vegetation, 19 different forest with is dominated by Rhododendron and Himalayan Blue pine. The Conservation area is inhibited by some highly endangered species like Red Pandas and snow leopard with other animals like Himalayan musk deer, blue sheep, Himalayan black besr, grey wolf, assam macaque, dhole, lynx, Himalayan ghoral, horseshoe bat, back lipped pike, mainland serow and, 110 species of birds, 11 species of butterfly and 3 reptiles species. The region is inhibited by different ethnic group of people mainly dominated by Gurungs and Sherpa at higher altitude.
Manaslu region trekking offers spectacular mountain view of 10 peaks over (6,500 meters /21,300 ft.) are visible, including a few over (7,000 meters /23,000 ft.) like Annapurna, Manaslu, Dhaulagiri, Ngadi Chuli, Himalchuli, Ganesh Himal and Baudha. Manaslu region trek starts from Aarughat after you take a bus from Kathmandu to Gorkha and Gorkha to Aarughat. You will get to pass through high pass named Larkya La pass at an elevation of 5,105 meter which is the highest access point if the trek. En route you will pass through mountainous terrains, yak pastures, paddy field, beautiful villages and terraces, yak caravan passing by, mani walls, chortens, monasteries, high passes, deep gorge of Budhi Gandaki river, fissures of Marsyangdi River and scenic environment. Larkya –la trek and Tsum valley trek are most popular trekking destination in Manaslu region.
